I was born exactly thirty years after the end of WWI and just three years after VE day. As an American of German heritage I seemed to be naturally attracted to this era.
A few THINGS related to these wars became clear to me over the years. One is wars are as much economic as political. Two is they are fought at a great cost in lives to the populace and armed forces of all belligerents. Three is wars do not stay won. The US has been involved in armed conflicts since its founding as have most other countries. Peace is merely a breathing space between bouts. Four is that the enemy combatants get together to drink, celebrate and reminisce TOGETHER during the peace (and, once, during the conflict as evidenced by the Christmas Truce of 1914). Five is the rich and powerful rarely risk their selves, sons or wealth.
